Statbandit is all about numbers and common sense. Over the years, numbers and math have become more and more important in just about everybody's day to day lives. In sports we have evolved from baseball cards and piece of gum to the complex analysis of Sabermetrics. In politics, where would we be without the polls? Presidential polls used to be done on a quarterly or monthly basis by small group of researchers and hardly ever publicized. Today, there hardly is a day that goes by without a new poll done by what seems to be everybody under the sun. And, there can be many discussions to be had on the impact of exit polling.
The Statbandit.com concept has been around for the past few years and is finally coming to fruition with the help of friends and family. The basis and foundation for the creation of Statbandit.com has been around for years. In my younger days, I followed the Chicago Cubs on a daily basis and would keep up to date batting averages for every Cub as they came to bat. Over the years I have migrated from baseball stats to being engrossed in football stats. And, of late, I’ve become a political junkie.
I have multiple degrees in Computer Science & Math and Statistics. I worked professionally at a major corporation in the areas of quality control and information technology. I have a competitive nature from playing soccer to fantasy sports. I also love the martial arts where I’m currently doing Tae Kwon Do and Gumdo. And, I am an avid reader with interests ranging from ancient cultures to World War II to fictional action / adventure / mystery to martial arts, and of course MATH and science.
The goal of Statbandit is to provide a place on the web for like minded individuals to gather, discuss, and learn about numbers, math, and day to day issues. Another benefit of Statbandit will be ease of access to data. It’s one thing to see a grid of data in a sports periodical or data in a sortable table on the web. It’s a totally different beast to be able generate your own analysis from those tables without having to spend a lot of time and energy recreating that data in something like Microsoft Excel. Over the years, I have created quite a few data cubes in Excel and learned many tricks. These data cubes and insights will be available for registered users of Statbandit.
